Gratitude is a nod to Johann Sebastian Bach. It might sound far removed from Bach’s Cello Suite no. 1 in G major, but that was the inspiration behind it. Gratitude is also in G major and like the Prelude movement of the suite in particular, it has a shifting harmonic structure often anchored by a more static G root underneath.
